Grizzly Peak Lookout

This year’s Veterans Day and Diwali were very different. We celebrated Socially Distanced Diwali with family and friends over zoom. To make this festive season joyous we thought of making a trip to Berkeley hills to check out the beautiful fall colors by driving around Tilden regional park. Lake Anza and Indian camp have a wonderful collection of flaming red leaves of poison oak and yellow paperbark maple. This place is a very easy hike for kids and for a person using a wheelchair

Drive to Grizzly Peak Blvd. The views from Grizzly Peak Blvd are awesome. Follow the signs to the Botanical garden and Lawrence Hall of Science. This hilltop road offers a Panoramic view of the San Francisco bay with splashes of fall colors. After a quick stop at The Lawrence Hall of Science, we headed towards Lake Anza and the Indian camp of the Tilden nature area. Take the Shasta road and turn right on Central park drive to get a beautiful view of the Golf course and Lake Anza fall foliage. Follow the direction to an Indian camp on Central Park Drive. The Bigleaf picnic area has some vibrant yellow paperbark maples. Park your car, go for a small hike, take pictures and enjoy the relaxing fall afternoon in these difficult times. Downhill you can visit the city of Kensington which shows a spectacular splash of fall foliage. It is very refreshing to see the colors just driving around the city

♿️ Wheelchair Accessibility ♿️

  • Grizzly Peak Blvd has various lookout but it is difficult to reach there if you in a wheelchair as the road is very busy and you have to cross it over
  • At the cross-section of Grizzly Peak and Centennial near Lawrence Hall of Science has some wheelchair-accessible parking from where you get the Panoramic View of the city.
  • There are wheelchair accessible parking and restrooms near the Indian camp right in front of the colorful Paperbark Maples. You can go for a little hike around or just spend some time there clicking beautiful pictures of the yellow canopies
  • There are also wheelchair parking near the lake from where you can enjoy the fall colors
  • The Botanical garden also has some wheelchair parking and Restrooms.
  • Lake Anza loop trail is relatively an easy trail but might be difficult to navigate with a wheelchair. So driving around the loop with parking at different spots may be a better way to enjoy the fall colors.
