Acropolis, Athens, Greece 🇬🇷

Wheelchair Accessibility: ♿️

Acropolis is one of the most famous historic sites in Athens. The view is amazing at the hilltop. Most of it is ruins but the historic site still has the flavor of the past. The Acropolis museum is very nice and you can learn more about the history and see the original artifacts. To climb up to reach the top of the hill is very tiring as the ground is very uneven. It is a good idea to visit this place early morning as it gets very crowded late afternoon and it is too hot too. This place is not very wheelchair-friendly. The Acropolis has a wheelchair-accessible entrance where you can reach by elevator. There are stairs that have a wheelchair climber to reach the elevator. The elevator is most of the time not working.

Rothenburg, Germany 🇩🇪

Wheelchair Accessibility: ♿️  ♿️

Rothenburg is one of the best preserved walled cities in Europe. It is one of the most visited places in the Romantic Road of Germany. This is situated near the Bank of River Tauber and is very Picturesque. Strolling around the old town is the main attraction. The streets are very charming with  little squares surrounded by brightly colored half-timbered houses and a photographer’s delight. If you stay in one of the hotels inside the wall city you will enjoy the most. Rothenburg’s Marktplatz is very famous for its Christmas markets. There is a famous Pretzel shop where you can enjoy many interesting varieties.

As Rothenburg is a walled city from Medieval times, the streets are cobbled and hard for a wheelchair to navigate around. The shops have a little step and there are no ramps. There is lots of parking outside the walled city. Parking is free with a disabled placard.

Dalí Theatre-Museum, Figueres, Spain 🇪🇸

Wheelchair accessibility- ♿️ ♿️

Visiting the Dali Theatre and Museum is one of the most amazing things of my Spain trip. This Museum features the works and passions of Salvador Dali. Ths is located in his hometown Figueres, in Catalonia, Spain. From the entrance of the brick walled tower to the exit all the attractions are mind blowing. The museum has a collection of Vintage Cadillac which “Rains” in the interior and many other famous works of Salvador Dali including the room which looks like a portrait of Mae West. The pieces of art will reveal themselves as far as one’s mind allows.

Accessibility is a little difficult for the people with reduced mobility because of old buildings. Wheelchairs are available to use in the museum. You have to contact the museum staff for the wheelchair. The central courtyard, Stage, Treasure Room and Fishmonger’s are wheelchair accessible. The restrooms are one step down and not wheelchair accessible. There is no parking near the museum. You have to park the car in the front road and walk down which is a little difficult for Wheelchair users. People around are very friendly and always ready to help

Galata Tower, Istanbul, Turkey 🇹🇷

Wheelchair accessibility ♿️

Galata tower is at the top of the Golden Horn in the middle of Isranbul. From here you can get a panoramic view of the whole historic peninsula and the Bosphorus Bridge. The little neighbourhood around the tower is very lively with music shops, street vendors, street art and fantastic people watching. The queue in the tower moves very slowly as everyone is trying to click pictures.

This place is not fully accessible. The tower has a spiral staircase which takes you to the top. There is an elevator which only takes you to the 7th floor. People with reduced mobility can get a glimpse of the panoramic view from the windows. There are stairs to enter the building which are very steep. The neighbourhood also has cobbled streets which makes it difficult for a wheelchair.

Lerwick, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland 🇬🇧

Wheelchair Accessibility: ♿️ ♿️ ♿️

It is an archipelago of 100 islands and is off the coast of Scotland. it has had quite a lot of investment into it by oil companies because it has oil. It does not have that much but it does have a Viking festival called “Up Helly Aa” in which they burn a Viking longboat. They have that because historically they were owned by the Norse until 1462 in which it was given as a dowry for a Danish princess. This has lead to a mixed cultural identity which is quite interesting
