It was Memorial Day and school ended. That’s it! I clicked that one turn-in button and school was officially over. I bid farewell to all my friends… virtually. Times are different now. There is no way to get together and celebrate the last day of school.

Our family also participates in social distancing and shelter in place. Social distancing is different for everyone, and for our family, it hinders us to fulfill our favorite pastime. Our family is a travel-holic. A long weekend definitely got us itching to go out and travel somewhere far. We wanted to go on a 2-night getaway, but unfortunately, that was not possible. The lockdown was still successfully continuing and some places had started to open, but an overnight stay was still not recommended. We finally decided to go on a day trip exploring Highway 1 on our way to our neighboring city of San Francisco. Because this is a well-traveled place for us we decided to look at different places around the city. Surprisingly, we were not the only ones craving to explore Highway 1, as it was very crowded. After seeing the endless number of people driving through Highway 1, we decided to take a detour and went through Marin County, a scenic town north of the bay.

The scenery was beautiful, the waves splashing every other second, with the Golden Gate in the backdrop. The city of Tiburon locates itself a few miles north of Sausalito. This scenery is a great place for special clicks with your special someone. A drive around Tiburon entices many visitors to see what Tiburon was like over a century ago at the Tiburon Railroad-Ferry Museum. Many people also bike around the city against the bay breeze collecting vivid images of the bay with the wooden elegant houses on their right. While driving around Tiburon, you also get to see many beautiful Art Row Shops and charming boutiques on Main Street. The Art Row Shops have special stories behind them, as many were converted old boathouses. Unfortunately, during this time the boutiques were closed, but you can still stroll alongside the stores in the traffic-free zones. After a long day’s trip, there were still some places open for take out food. The wonderful restaurants that were opened come from various cultural cuisines all the way from China, Italy, Mexico and local foods from America. After grabbing a bite, you can park in a parking nearby and enjoy the waterfront along with the SFO skyline.

All in all, even during social distancing, it is important to make a long weekend feel extra special and different compared to every other day in the week and weekends. Changes in driving destinations and activities is a good start. Let me know what you do to make your time extra special 🙂
