As we are starting to get firm control over the pandemic, our day trips are becoming a little more relaxed, but at the same time mandating all the precautions. Our visits to the beaches are now more relaxing as some of these have opened up and people are following the beach rules. As we have a wheelchair user in the family we are always looking for beaches that are accessible with a ramp. Davenport offers some spectacular beaches that are wheelchair accessible.

Davenport is a quaint town along the coastal highway on Route 1.  Davenport beaches are famous for a beautiful sunset, steep cliffs, rock shelves, and unique rock formations. Davenport crack’s, the Sharkfin formation, and large rock arch formation are some unique features of these beaches. In spring the landscape is very beautiful with the wildflowers blooming. So while driving on Route 1, slow down for a relaxing stop at the town of Davenport. Grab some pastries from Whale City bakery and enjoy the Sunset.

Davenport Beach and Davenport Cove Beach are the two beaches right in Davenport town where you can experience the Crack and the rock formations. Davenport landing beach is a  less crowded sandy beach just north of town. Continue on Route 1 towards Halfmoon Bay and turn left on davenport landing Road which is a very narrow street and easy to miss.  There is ample parking along this loop road next to the restrooms and short trails that lead to the beach

Roadside inn and cafe is a good place to have dinner after watching the beautiful sunset.

♿️ Wheelchair Accessibility ♿️

Davenport Cove Beach and Davenport Beach are not wheelchair friendly. But you can still enjoy the sunset and the fantastic view from the parking lot which is on Oceanside near the main intersection of town at ocean street. There are some walking trails to reach the beach but they are not wheelchair accessible.

Davenport Landing Beach Ramp

Davenport Landing Beach is completely wheelchair accessible. There is a ramp all the way from parking to the beach. The tail end of the ramp may have a lot of sand. The wheelchair might need an extra push to navigate through that sand to reach the end of the ramp. That position is fairly good to see the cliff as well as the sunset.

Beach wheelchairs are also available for rent but you have to pick it up from Santacruz. For reservations please call: 831-459-7210

There is a wheelchair accessible restroom and an accessible picnic table too. And lastly, check the new beach timing before you head out.
