Fall is an exciting season and the various colors are always a topic of discussion. This year, during the pandemic, the colors will be watched by most people as they are fighting the social distance boredom. Driving around to see fall colors is a feel-good activity that everyone can do, including wheelchair users for whom it is challenging to go for hikes in a park. Fremont, California, and the Tri-city area show a lovely kaleidoscope of colors every year.

  • Cal State Hayward Campus – Fall foliage starts from mid to late-October. You can enjoy the colorful spread by driving through the Campus. Visit on a weekend so that you have the parking lot to yourself to click beautiful pictures.
  • Taylor Ave in Hayward also has a beautiful cluster of yellow foliage.
  • A swift trip to Pleasanton at the intersection of Hopyard and Clorox Ave is well worth the effort in early November. There is a cluster of colorful Sugar maples turning orange. Enjoy walking on the orange carpet. Koll Center Parkway and Sunol water Temple also have wonderful Fall Foliage. Sunol Blvd and Sunol wilderness regional park has a good mix of evergreens and fall colors.
  • The intersection of Fremont Blvd and Michael Ave in Fremont has a row of brilliant yellow foliage which starts @ late October.
  •  At Fremont BART station, the Bart way drive has a magnificent display of yellow foliage. There is ample parking space around to stop and take pictures.
  • Curie Street at Pacific Commons is bordered by beautiful orange foliage
  • Ardenwood area in Fremont 
  • The colors start to appear in the 1st week of November.
  • The intersection of Omar Street and Stevenson Blvd @ Fremont has a row of Sugar maples turning into a multi-color background. You can find these best colors between Hilo and Stevenson.         
  • The Mission area of Fremont has some trees which add a splash of color. From Intersection of Gomes and Grimmer on Mission Blvd, Stevenson to Driscoll and Bedford Drive has a Brilliant range color display. 
  • Elizabeth Park and Quarry lake recreational area also provides a range of colors during this season.

Apart from these, there are other places in the South and North Bay where you can experience fall colors. Napa, Sonoma, Yosemite, and Lake Tahoe area, Mt Shasta has a beautiful palette of colors.

All the sites mentioned here are easily seen by driving around. Most of these places are ADA compliant and are fully accessible on wheelchairs or mobility scooters.  At most of the sites, you can just park your car and feast your eyes on natures orange and yellow carpet
